The Sheriffs of Savage Wells A Proper Romance Sarah M Eden 9781629722191 Books
Virtually everything Sarah Eden writes is gold, but "The Sheriffs of Savage Wells" may be her most gorgeous creation yet! This novel has it all-- immaculate writing and prodigious research, seamless and sophisticated plot-twists, woven into a luxurious tapestry of resonate life but much more fun. The 3 main issues our protagonist, Paisley, encounters are each deliciously compelling and resonate with real-life problems. And each of the three plot arcs makes the reader fall ever more in love with our Paisley & her love interest, Cade.
He's so delectably man-some, loyal, trustworthy, heroic & hunky, and loves Paisley for her sass-mouthed, strategically-minded, quick-drawing gorgeousness & has no problem letting her know, while Ms. Eden plays the tension like a world-class cellist without any need of resorting to ridiculously unrealistic tropes & clichés as many authors do.
I could go on, but I stayed up way too late because I couldn't stop devouring this book until, devastatingly, there was none left & now I must sleep lest I ramble on into the wee hours.
So bottomline, "The Sheriffs of Savage Wells" will make you:
-- eyeball-binge it's pages until you finish, no matter the hour of day or night.
--save the world, one cattle rustler at a time
-- want to slip into the lacy high collars and flowing skirts if the high-born prairie era, sling a gun belt provocatively low on your hips, & shoot quicker n' lightnin'.
-- grab a hunky beard-stubble-chinned cowboy/sheriff by the shirtfront and smooch his face off-- and/or, smooch-tackle your honey.
-- buck the system & become what you've always dreamed of being, even if it's in an industry dominated by members of the opposite sex.
--and SOOO much more
It's the best kind of romantic novel: tension-filled! You don't even notice that its squeaky-clean, through the thick cloud of steamy, yet innocent behaving flirtation & nuzzling.
Tension is so much hotter than bald graphic sex.
Also, the cliched reasons most authors employ to synthesize tension are plain unrealistic & have nothing to do with reality
and can thereby really mess with your head. Nope, there is no magical conversation that will straighten out all the conflict at the snap of a finger, he's just not that into you. So why do the novelist keep pulling out this old saw.
But actual wise trepidation when contemplating huge forever commitments, that's a thing & one that should be more frequently introduced to women at large.
Learning to trust, creating a foundation on which to build, etc, that's for real.
Anywoo, . . . sleep.
So, read it already.
You're welcome.

The Sheriffs of Savage Wells A Proper Romance Sarah M Eden 9781629722191 Books Reviews
I enjoyed this book for the engaging characters, the pacing, the unusual feminine style of policing a small town, the feminist / misogynist themes, the difficulties faced by the main character Paisley Bell and the way she handled them. It was a fresh and engaging story if a bit repetitious (how many times would a romantic couple hug and hold each other without kissing or acknowledging the romance?) But I was into it, wanting to know what was going to happen. I was interested in how the two mains were going to get together in spite of one big dilemma the path Paisley wanted to take didn't make sense, and everybody knew it, reader and characters alike. So what was the solution? How did that dilemma get solved? It didn't. The ending was a disappointment. I liked that Paisley was true to herself in her career choice, but where did that leave the other issues, like her dad and her relationship with Cade and Gideon? Unclear.
I received my kindle version of The Sheriffs of Savage Wells yesterday. I couldn't start reading until after work. My husband asked me what my plans for the evening were, and I said I have a new book from my favorite author. He just smiled and realized I would be busy for hours and not to expect anything else to get done. I stayed up way to late (early?) to finish it since waiting throughout the day to see what happens simply wasn't an acceptable option ) I loved it from start to finish!
First off, I have to say for the record that I love Sarah M. Eden's books. She's generally a great author and one of the few that I will actually pay good money to read without knowing anything about the book first. But that being said, I didn't enjoy this book. I'm being generous giving it 2 stars.
The main characters are...okay. The hero has no story arc and no growth. He was okay, just not particularly interesting because of that lack of character development. The heroine suffers from the same problem, but in a different way. The hero has no flaws really and thus no development. The heroine has her flaws, but never gets over them. She has some development, as she's able to overcome them a little bit when it comes to certain aspects of her life, but the issues are still lingering enough that it (view spoiler) So, not really any development on her end, either. But even with that said, the hero and heroine are witty and their banter is funny, so they become engaging and I enjoyed reading them. They just weren't as interesting as Eden's other heroes and heroines in her other books.
The thing that really hurt the story for me was the constant, gaggingly strong feminist theme throughout it. The whole story is about the heroine wanting a job that isn't available to a woman, and her drive to get it. It really is the main story--not the romance--because the majority of the conflict and struggles the characters go through are about her job. (view spoiler) It felt super preachy. I'm all for equal treatment of women, but sometimes stories like this spend so much time sitting around with the characters sermonizing about the power of women and how they should do whatever they want, that it just becomes a soapbox and not a story.
So, not one of her best. But if the feminist focus doesn't bother you, then you'll probably enjoy it. It's got Eden's classic witty banter and there's a whole host of side characters that are interesting oddballs.
